How much to charge my niece(in-law) for cleaning the house? /u/Formaldehyd3 No such thing as stupid questions

She’s 18, an extremely responsible, straight-A student. And works her ass off. She lives with us so she can escape a hostile living environment with her mother. We don’t charge her rent, and she can occasionally be helpful around the house.

My wife and kids went out of town for Christmas, so I’ve been a bit of a sad sack. The house was trashed when she left, I’m too depressed to take care of it myself. So I offered to pay my niece to do it. She did a stellar job, offered to do it for free. But I can’t ask something for nothing.

I wanted to give her $100 because of how much it meant to me. But others are saying I’m setting a bad precedent for someone that lives with us rent-free. I love this kid to death, and I’m no way do I feel she’s taking advantage of us.

Considering these circumstances, what is a fair price for a slightly above average cleaning of a 1200sq.ft house?
