Do you know anyone who has successfully left tech to another fulfilling career? I’m curious to hear about it. /u/Everyday_sisyphus CSCQ protests reddit

I know this is sort of the opposite purpose of this sub but I don’t think there’s a better place to ask it. I’m a 30 year old senior data engineer (with MLE experience) with 8YOE, worked at Amazon, interned at Meta, been doing startups for a while, all Bay Area.

I’m so bored every day and I just genuinely don’t care about any of this. The abstract nature of tech IC work just doesn’t satisfy me, I don’t get that “aha I did it” feeling anymore when I build something, I’m just slightly relieved that it’s over.

I’m not even depressed outside of work, but this work is just really depressing for me. I get a lot more gratification when I accomplish things where the results are tangible and immediate.

Multiple times I’ve thought it was just the job, projects, or company, but every time I switch companies, I’m just as bored. With this amount of disinterest in what I do, I’ll never move to staff, and I’ll never get promoted to management because I simply don’t care about it enough to do the work required stand apart to that extent.

At the same time, I recognize how privileged I am to sit on my ass at home and get paid pretty well for the amount of work I do (or dont do depending on the day).

I don’t know, I just can’t see myself doing this for much longer, and I’m wondering if anyone knows of stories where people from tech switched careers, and what the outcome was.
