Do some people in the US really live in the middle of nowhere like in horror movies? /u/LordSoyBoy911 No such thing as stupid questions

Do people live in the middle of nowhere that the next town, petrol station, food stores etc etc are 10s of miles away?

Are people not afraid of home invasions if no one else is around to help or hear screams etc? Or are they fully stacked for home invasions or any sort of violence?

Thanks,
