I guess I’m trying to get everyone’s opinion here. There’s a lot of background information here, so I’ll just get right to it.
A bit of background information. I’m the oldest in my group at 25. 2 of the guys I went to school with but are a year or two younger. The other 2 are still teenagers. I’m really the only person in the group with a job, kids or any conventional responsibilities. We play from 7pm-12/1am once every week remotely over discord. Sometimes this is hard for me and creates schedule issues. I also joined the campaign late and as a first time player. I envisioned D&D as a bit more of a freer experience than what I’ve been provided by my dm. Not many arguments have arisen but you can tell that my ideas mesh poorly.
So the conflict that arose tonight and makes me question my place. The party was at a Colosseum. One member fighting, the other 3 of us betting. I made a bet with another player and I won the bet. He refused to pay me, we argued a bit, he grabbed me, I bit him. Some civilians get caught up in the crossfire. Guards come. By standing party member and the one I fought with blame everything on. Before I am able to react the guards try to seize me. I try to go invisible and one of the guards counter-spells me. A second one charges me to grapple. He rolls a nat 1 to my nat 20. He charges past me off the balcony we’re on to his death. My character surrenders (having a mental breakdown). My two party members pretend as if they don’t know me ( they are well respected members of the community we are in). My character breaks out of the jail cart he is held in and takes off on the run. In my characters absence the two party members involved meet up with the one fighting (our “party leader”). They lie and tell him that I killed a guy and tried to kill a woman in the crowd during an argument we had. The party leader is a very virtuous person and declares if I return to the group that he will kill me if I don’t leave immediately. They then proceed to trash talk my character both in character and as players.
I’m now sitting through the rest of the session while they finish.
The player I had the altercation with and the dm are very close friends and the ones my age. I will name the player T and the dm C. It is also C’s first time dming so T helps him very often. T gets A LOT of meta knowledge and preferential treatment because of this. He was even consulted as my interaction with the guards was happening as well as during my escape attempt.
I just feel like I’m being pushed out by the group for being a problem with scheduling and because I don’t fit neatly into their narrative.
I guess I just want everyone to weight in. I understand there is probably gaps in my story and background information I’m more than happy to fill in.
