Jagex recently updated Trouble Brewing.
Not many people seem to know about it, but they’ve sped up the collection log for this minigame by as much as 3.8x! The 7 hats now take – on average – 30 minutes to unlock, while the 14 body/legs take about an hour each. That’s 21 collection logs each taking an average of 50 minutes!
As a result, some of us have taken to organizing a little friends chat trying to gather as many brewers as we can who want to take part in the activity. Unfortunately, this has worked so well that most of us are about to finish the entire collection log. So now we need you to replenish our numbers!
The friends chat is called ‘rum runners‘ and it operates solely in world 304, the official Trouble Brewing world. Here are some things to note:
- We usually use red team. This is because of a quirk in the code that allows red team to check for stragglers joining late every minute. This means that if you didn’t get in, you can still join late and get full points. Anyone joining before the halfway mark will get full contribution points. Everyone gets full points for any rum brewed regardless.
- Loads of people help brew and then go afk for a few rounds. This is fine, so long as we can see that you help us brew every now and then. All we ask if that if you are planning to afk, you don’t take spots away from red team that brewers need to get brewing asap. As you already know, you can just join 1 or 2 minutes late and still get full points!
- If you are a main account, you will be most helpful on flower duty. This means picking 5 flowers (the cap per player) and trading them over to another account. This allows a player to carry up to a full inventory of 28 flowers instead of 5 at a time.
- If you just want fletching or cooking xp as a lower-level account, feel free! You can help by depositing the fletched bark in the hopper upstairs, and your contribution will still be much appreciated. You’ll get some free collection logs and piratey fashionscape along the way.
- If you are an ironman account, you will be of most help nutting. This involves collecting the flowers the main accounts brought from the kettle, using them to dye monkeys red and having them collect bitternuts. The cap per player is 2 and there is no way to circumvent this. A little-known trick, though: if you are wearing a m’speak amulet (or have MM2 completed) you can give strategies to the monkey. Collect 2
coloured monkeysred monkeys, send the first into the tree by cautioning him (chat option 3), then follow that one up with an aggressive monkey (chat option 1). This will get you your nut faster! - Other than this, there are a few miscellaneous tasks like collecting grubs, bark or starting and upkeeping the boilers. All are very straightforward and usually taken care of by our more experienced players.
- When the timer starts running low, at around 4 minutes left, make sure to get contribution by adding some buckets of water the traditional way. The point cap for contribution is 100, anything added past that will not net you any points. Every rum we brew though, adds another 10 points to your total. In most cases we’ll get past the 20 rum mark, averaging out to more than 300 points a game!
If you’re still uncertain, just join the FC and ask some people what to do, everyone there learned on the job, so no need for impostor syndrome. Most people are happy to teach. Players with a gold star have finished the log, players with a silver star are experienced brewers who can help you out. If that’s still not enough, just have a chat with RSN “large urn”. He’ll help you with any issues you may have!
Our personal best so far has been 28 rum in 1 round of trouble brewing, netting us a fabulous 380 total points in just 20 minutes! Can you help us break that record? Hop in the FC if you like fast collection logs, or would simply like to get your hands on a fancy naval outfit or a cool-looking flag!
