I feel that I have wasted 4 years and tens of thousands of dollars on a degree that will get me nowhere /u/PSKTS_Heisingberg CSCQ protests reddit

I am in my junior year of college, at a small state college (nowhere near any top list of anything, but with an ABET certification for the program, not like that matters though), and everything I see points to me having a very bleak future when I get out. Not a single thing points to me actually being able to secure a job, let alone an internship in the next year.

Since starting my time at college:

  • i’ve created several successful mobile apps, sold one of them that where I had amassed a brand that reached 10 million impressions in a month on Instagram at one point, as well as another application that garnered 5,000+ downloads in a month and $500 in sales in that same month

  • started an LLC technology company, used that company to start freelancing with contract based client work for other mobile applications (that got me paid and also my portfolio up)

  • started development on a video game

  • was one of the first few people to create a public external LLM chat wrapper project in the very early days of the ChatGPT API release (that garnered 11,000 visits in 2 days, and $200+ in donations, that also had me in process of writing a research paper with my school but never got completed).

My resume has been reviewed repeatedly by multiple people including the career resources team at my university. And yet, with all of my knowledge, “experience” and projects on there, all i’ve gotten are rejections after rejections from every possible company, no matter how good the fit is for the job. I haven’t received an absolute single “we’ll get back to you” or even an inkling of a chance of hope.

All I hear are how my finance roommates and communications roommates are drowning in 6-9 offers and one who is a senior already is basically working at the place he has lined up, even though he won’t be graduating for another semester. I feel hopeless and defeated.

They [the internships I apply to] want experienced applicants but don’t want to GIVE experience to anyone! I’m at the finish line of my degree but I don’t even know if it’s worth it anymore. What am I supposed to do?

Nothing points to me getting a chance at the career I wanted to do when I first came into the system 4 years ago. Nothing points to me being able to make a living with my degree, and i’m lost and confused. I knew what I was signing up for but man I thought it’d be better by now. I’m not the first one to complain, but what the hell am I supposed to do?
