Why john tried to pull out the gun with several armed men from bill? /u/zhalleyY_-2 Red Dead Redemption

I mean, he is not too dumb. This is the dumbest thing he did in all the game i think. Rockstar made it just to make him recover and come back stronger (its a classic) because it suits the script. I would be lying if I say I dont like the scene and what comes after but, I dont think it suits with john’s character.
