Economics or Linguistics as a double major for CS? /u/NarrowGuidance4 CSCQ protests reddit

Current freshman double major in CS and Linguistics, thinking to switch Linguistics to Economics. Wrote my thought process below, any misconceptions?

Linguistics Pros-

  • – Interest in material
  • – Easier classes
  • – Less common, possibly separate self from others in hiring?

Linguistics Cons-

  • – Most employers likely assume linguistics is learning a language/humanities major
  • – Jobs with computational ling are likely more niche than economics
  • – Lower paying
  • – Virtually no difference from only CS

Economics Pros-

  • – Seems more respected and useful for employment
  • – Good fallback if can’t find CS job due to market
  • – Similar salary to engineering majors alone

Economics Cons-

  • – Slightly harder
