Does the level of authority of the person referring you to their company matter? /u/Smowkilo CSCQ protests reddit

I know some people here post about how they got referred by their friends and they still didn’t even get an interview. Could this be the case even if you got referred by someone higher up? Right now I’m being referred by someone pretty high up who oversees engineering operations and they said they’d speak to the hiring manager and connect me with them directly. Anyone have any experience with a similar situation or any idea what I should expect? Thanks
