I normally have no idea what to say. My default strat is to silently offer a pack of tissues, and if their water bottle is nearby, some water. After that I sort of silently hover next to the person and wait to see if they’ll talk about it. If I’m closer friends with the person, I may gingerly attempt patting their shoulder. Are these the right things to do? Should I be doing it differently, or adding more steps?
