So last Friday, I went out on a date with a girl I met online. I ultimately wasn’t really feeling it with her (in more ways than what I’m about to explain) so I’m not upset that it didn’t work out, but I am curious about how she reacted to something I said.
At one point our conversation turned to what we do with our families for the holidays. I’m originally from Vermont and my family is still there so I listed off all of the activities we do like skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating. I tried to punctuate the end of my list with a joke saying “ya know, frolic and play the Eskimo way” which I was quoting from the song Walking in a Winter Wonderland.
My date told me that she was offended I would say something as problematic as that. I apologized saying that I was sorry and that I was just saying a line from a popular Christmas song.
Was it wrong of me to quote that line?
