Software engineer here with currently almost 3 YOE in the industry. My current experience involves some data engineering (ETL, SQL, NoSQL, and GraphDB), full stack web development (Node, Python, .NET, React, and Angular), and cloud dev ops (AWS and Azure).
At my current company, my next promotion is to a project manager in about a year. From what I understand, the role here is a mix of managing the team, managing business relations, and occasionally assisting with code and architecture related problems. I personally want to stay in the technical realm as an engineer or an architect and I’m not sure if being a PM limits my opportunities of finding a job in that space or actually enhances it.
Because of this, would it be advantageous to start looking for another role now for a higher level software engineer (well aware of the state of the job market so I know this is gonna take a couple of months) or should I stay to get some project management experience as that would open more doors for senior developer/architect positions?
