Her name was Miri. She was a half-Drow elf Circle of the Land (forest) Druid. I’ve played her for about 7 years and this is the campaign’s first major and (possibly) perma-death. We were in the Feywild, fighting a shadow version of our party. It was a tough battle. Towards the end of the fight, our warlock was down and had already failed 2 death saves. Miri was struck down by the shadow-version of her partner, a rogue. I failed my first death save. In a series in-game choices and bad rolls, the shadow-rogue autocritted my downed PC and in a spray of blood killed her. Fitting. Sad. Devastating. She leaves behind not just her party, but her Rogue love-interest and the party’s Barbarian-Druid who was a father-figure to her. I think (hope) this will leave a profound impact on them. It will be interesting to see how this might shape the party.
Despite this being a fun and impactful game overall, I’m feeling pretty bummed and a little deflated. I wish I made better decisions myself. All the “what-ifs.” It is bittersweet in a way. Our DM alluded that there may be an opportunity to get her back. When she died, her soul appeared to be sucked into our Warlock’s gold eye and trapped in a sort of snow globe where it appears the Warlock’s parents might also be. Hopefully the party can preserve her body…
I just needed to get this out. Thanks for reading. If you feel like posting your own death stories or homages to your PCs please do.
