Is the best path for me to take a fully remote (online) CS degree? /u/variantsonly7 CSCQ protests reddit

I’m 21 and I’m about to graduate with an econ & accounting degree. The problem is I wanna switch careers to become a software engineer, I’ve got a friend who is a SWE and lives about 10 mins away, but he done the typical CS degree route.

I can’t go back full time to uni to get a CS degree because I’ll be working a full time job in London and I’m sure I’ll need to attend some lectures or computer classes.

I’ve heard about online boot camps but whenever I’ve looked online at SWE roles I’ve seen a lot of them who say they want a BSc minimum in a STEM related degree like eg CS, Maths and Physics. Also Ive heard of a few people getting hired from boot camps but there again a few people also win the lottery.

I’ve recently come across some fully remote CS degrees. I wouldn’t mind doing something like this despite the 20k tuition costs because I feel like the ROI would be worth it in the long run and tbh I love remote learning, during my econ degree I pretty much just learnt through online lectures anyways.

So do you guys think it’s worth it? I think I’ll be going into more student loan debt working full time in finance and then after work/ on weekends be studying for my 3 year remote CS degree.
