Any cleric of the Papacy of the Maul is required to use a hardwood maul or mace in order to draw from the divine. Their mauls are Spellcasting foci, in D&D terms. The holy men that wield these weapons are dedicated to only using these mauls, when they need to use a weapon. They are strong hardwood, and can break ribs, knock people to the ground, and shatter skulls. Some clerics will only use a symbolic maul, a smaller wooden club that is not nearly as lethal in melee combat, but is fully functional as a holy instrument.
