Why is the first sign of an impending cold a sore throat? /u/Savvy513 No such thing as stupid questions

As mentioned, I know when I wake up in the morning with a sore throat, I have about 12-24 hours before I can no longer breathe through my nose. Why is this always the first symptom that shows up?
