Who else loves to play older characters? /u/Honneboppel DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Maybe I am getting older myself, but playing 17 year old heroes who hit level 20 and saving the world twice over before turning 19 has become really old (bad pun intended) for me.

Actually as I think back, I never really played as teenage characters, outside of specific settings. Most are rather late when it comes to discovering their adventuring side. – the wizard that got kicked out of school to actually finish his thesis – the local guardsman that just got mixed up with some weird shit as he was trying to just live a normal life – the monk who was just climbing the sacred mountain annualy for the 59th time, and suddenly stuff happend – or just the parent who really needed to make some gold in order to feed their family.

But I always seem to be the odd one out with those choices. Ending up in a group of 16-19 year old freshlings with tragic backgrounds. Something in the likes of being taken in by XY after parents where killed and then turning out to be a prodigy in soellcasting/thieving/avenging and a higher killcount than the most hardened veterans ever achieve in their whole life.

So how is it with you? Do you prefer playing youngling heroes or older ones who only later turn out to be a hero? Do you make a different choice when it comes to generating at higher levels? Do you scale your heroes so they are around your own real life age to bett34 identity with them?
