UK: Next step up from ‘basic’ shirts? No idea where to start. /u/PablodiSplooge /r/malefashionadvice

I’ve never bought a shirt anywhere other than your standard high street places – H&M, Next, River Island, etc etc. I’m pushing 40 now, doing ok for myself work-wise, and I’d like to start looking the part. Do people visit tailors for this kind of thing, or is that just for super high end stuff / special occasions? There’s plenty of made-to-measure services online, but I don’t even know if I’d provide my measurements correctly. Any advice appreciated.
