I’m trying to find an amazing overcoat. I’ve gotten a lot of advice to buy second hand but the fit is really important to me and i can’t test out anything from eBay.
At the same time, it feels like there are a lot of different coats from 100% wool to 10/90 cashmere wool blends all the way up to 100% cashmere. However to an extent it feels like the price is driven by the brand names to its hard to quantify what’s good and what’s bad. I’m also open to made to measure.
I live in New York City so I can test out a bunch of brands/coats for any recommendations.
I was also considering suitsupply because I like the prices but more research indicates that it probably wouldn’t stand the test of time.
What are some brands with amazing high quality coats that I can buy one and rock it for a while while looking classy? The extent of formals I wear are quarterzip and I would like to wear the coat over a hoodie too.
Any recommendations/directions would be amazing! Also maybe any pointers on what I should look in a coat from a construction standpoint.
So far shortlisted the AMI Paris double breasted coat but worried if paying that much for new wool (it’s also polyester/cotton lined) and not cashmere is worth it.
