I always thought Minecraft was a kid’s game…

So I’m 47, and I started playing MC in late march of this year. I bought my son and I Minecraft since I’m an avid gamer and he expressed interest in it, so i figured we could bond and play it. Little did I know this game was so complex in its’ simplicity. The music, the nostalgic textures, the beautiful landscapes, the endless possibilities, infuriating physics and building techniques, the soothing binary of redstone, and the cathartic collecting, sorting, and hoarding of materials, and the inexorable pull of wanting to explore every goddamn cave I ever find(there’s nothing inside I don’t already own, what is this phenomenon?)How am I so late to this party?

So I ended up being waaaay more enraptured with the game than he was, joined a Realm owned by what turned out to be a maniacal narcissist. Took my 3 favorite friends from that Realm, and made my offline world a Realm. Fast forward 6 months, I have a sprawling paradise of wonderful players and builders including my son, and I play damn near every day. I love this game and my only hangup is getting stuck on what to build next knowing my skill limitations. Added a few photos of the builds on my island I’m most proud of. Running 3 furniture and block add-ons for more detailed builds. From reading about the evolution of the game, y’all have suffered long to get the game we have today, but I still can’t believe I thought this was some cutesy kids game.
