Shifting Focus to SWE/SDE Roles: Need Help Tailoring Experience and Projects /u/rahulrao1313 CSCQ protests reddit

Hi guys,

I’m currently looking for entry-level roles in AI/ML and Data Science, but I’ve noticed there are very few openings for fresh graduates. As a result, I’m trying to pivot and tailor my resume toward Software Engineer (SWE) or Software Development Engineer (SDE) positions.

My background:

  • Most of my internship experience and projects are focused on AI/ML and Data Science.
  • I have a few projects related to SWE, but they’re limited compared to my ML/DS work.

I’m looking for advice on:

  1. What type of projects will strengthen my SWE/SDE resume? (e.g., building full-stack apps, open-source contributions, backend systems, etc.)
  2. How can I showcase my AI/ML and DS skills in a way that appeals to SWE/SDE recruiters?
  3. Any additional tips on transitioning from a DS/AI-focused profile to a SWE/SDE-focused one?

I’d appreciate suggestions on relevant projects, skills to learn, or anything else that will make me a strong candidate for SWE/SDE roles.

Thanks in advance for your help! 😊
