DM had an enemy cast a magical effect that gave me level 3 exhaustion. Cool, whatever. Rogue/Bard. Magnificent proficiency in just about everything. My turn, I make an attack roll, I rolled at disadvantage. Dirty 20 by this point, we’ve worked out the enemies AC is 17. DM legit looks at me and says “You pull your bow back, loose your arrow, and as you do you stumble from your exhaustion, throwing off your aim. Roll damage.”
Me, wondering wtf he means by “Throwing off your aim,” said “OK.” I roll my damage, which included sneak attack because an ally was within 5 feet. “27 damage.”
“Alright, as you stumble and loose your arrow, you hit Locke. Locke, you take 27 damage.”
“Woah. Woah. Hold up. What the fuck?! I rolled a dirty 20, WITH disadvantage. This dudes AC is 17. I 100% hit him.”
“No. You’re exhausted. You missed.”
Is the DM wrong here or is there some additional mechanic at play here that idk about?
