I want to be a support-bard, but I think I’m doing it wrong? /u/Nobodyyouknow626 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hi! I’ve only started to play DnD about a year ago and this is my only campaign I’m in, so I’m not that experienced in it.
I’m playing a changeling Lore Bard, currently level 4. I picked bard because I wanted to support my friends in what ever way they need support in, so I figured the lore bard would be perfect for that. I can not stress this enough, I do NOT want to be in the front line or take anything away from my hard-hitting group mates.
Healing my friends? Awesome!
Distracting the enemy? Cool!
Boosting the fighters so they can hit even harder? Great!
And TECHNICALLY speaking I am doing that… but also not really.
I feel like my bardic inspiration is doing basically nothing. My healing spell cure wounds does so little that I often wonder why I even bothered. And my spells that I use to distract foes almost NEVER hit. The last one probably has to do with the fact that we are fighting a lot of enemies with high wisdom, maybe.
It’s just so frustrating. I put so much effort into my bard. I try to come up with fun jokes for my spells and I think in that regard I am doing a good job, my friends laugh a lot. But you could take all my rounds out of the last battle we had, and it would not change anything about the outcome.
I just want my support to MATTER, you know?
The DM is very understanding and offered me to change my spell list. I could also change the class if I wanted to, maybe to cleric – but bard fits so well for my character. I want to make it work. And I’m afraid multiclassing would confuse me more than anything.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the bard spells are super complicated? The way they are described are giving me a headache sometimes… why are they SO specific, but the cleric ones are so simple? The cleric gets to choose their spells in the morning but the bard, who is supposed to be creative and flexible, does not? (sorry for the rant)

Anyway, do any of you guys have tips on how I can make my bard better? Here are the spells I currently have and the ones I want to switch to:

Currently: Cantrips: viscous mockery, minor illusions, message / Spells: cure wounds, sleep, hideous laughter, suggestion, invisibility, dissonant whispers, detect thoughts

New ones: Cantrips: viscous mockery, minor illusions, message / Spells: Cure Wounds, Hideous Laughter, Featherfall, Color spray, Blindness-deafness, Mirror Image, enlarge-reduce
