Burnt out and unable to keep up, how do you deal? /u/ExpressionOk5435 CSCQ protests reddit

I’ve been working as a Software Engineer for just over 2 years now, and I feel like I am constantly stressed. I sometimes get tasks worth 4 story points that end up taking weeks due to unforseen circumstances (requirements change, PM changes their mind on the implementation, etc.) 80% of the time it’s manageable, but those 20% I feel like I just can’t keep up.

Technology wise I feel like I am adequate, I keep learning and don’t shy away from languages or tools I haven’t used before, but every role/project I have been on just feels so overbearing. Is this normal? Am I expected to learn more in my free time? Is it the current market that expects a lot?

I know it’s hard to provided feedback when you don’t have a direct view on my experience, but I was wondering if any of you have felt similarly, and how you overcame similar situations. I really enjoy CS, but professionally I feel so burnt out and exhausted.
