About all the castles/forts/dungeons in Skyrim… /u/SheepInWolfsAnus The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I posted this in a comment on r/SkyrimMemes the other day, but figured I would make it its own post to discuss.

Throughout all of Skyrim, there are so many castles and dungeons that are occupied by bandits, whom I proceed to murder to death and clear the property. Most of the time, I clear them out without a quest prompting me. I simply do so in my travels, either because they attacked me first or because it was clear they were up to no good.

So I find this castle, clear it out of its invaders, and the original owners of the castle have clearly not made an effort to come claim it or move back in. It remains empty until some other bandits move in.

Should that, or should that not, become my legal property?

As Dragonborn who is highly respected (if not the leader) in all factions/orders of Skyrim as well as a Thane to numerous (if not all) Jarls, and basically third in command to General Tullius (never Ulfuck), AND SAVED THE WORLD as Norm Macdonald would pronounce it…

Why are these castles not my legal property? In what world do I not have a claim over most of these forts, castles, or dungeons? Why am I not able to send in a combination of all my loyal followers to establish a new foothold from each of these castles/dungeons.

A housecarl who commands in my name. A college trained mage, a companion, and a member of the Dawnguard to advise and support my housecarl. As many imperial soldiers as needed. Perhaps a member of the Thieves Guild, or Dark Brotherhood, or even a Volkihar ally of Serana to watch the castle walls at night, or to do whatever needs to be done for their purposes (which I do not openly support, but do not privately condemn either).

To take this point even further, I simply ask why I, the Dragonborn, have not earned the crown of High King.

Why do I not command all of the Jarls to have a moot, and compel them to my cause as the single most powerful and unifying force that Skyrim has seen since the Breton called Talos.

Since I have allied myself with the Empire, and Elisef the Fair is the widow to the last High King, why can I not offer her the Amulet of Mara to politically unite, backed by Tullius, and rule out of Solitude? This keeps me close to Castle Volkihar, where one of my closest advisors, Serena, may sometimes command out of in my name (again, I cannot politically condone this, but an ethical troop of vampires could be extremely useful to me). I could also use The Voice to command the remaining dragons in Skyrim, allowing me easy travel to any of my other properties throughout Skyrim, both in and out of the city holds (my castles, dungeons, and forts).

Isran and the Dawnguard would keep peace in eastern Skyrim in my name, and The Blades (who do whatever I say and do not ask me to kill Paarthurnax) do the same in western Skyrim, and the Companions keep central / northern Skyrim.

Once myself and the Dark Brotherhood kill both the Emperor and his relatives, don’t you think the Dragonborn – backed by the Empire – might have a claim to reform the very empire that Tiber Septim founded?

In conclusion, fuck the Thalmor.
