My wife and I started seeing a sex therapist. It’s a very pricey endeavour for us but we do want help, so are happy to pay if we see results.
We’ve only had two sessions so far but we’d be lying if we said we were completely satisfied with what we’ve seen so far. First session was a long discussion about our issues and our sex histories. Second felt like a very generic “chat” which we could probably have had with anyone close to us, and made me doubt the value of what we’re paying for.
We’ve received some homework both times, which also felt a little like semi-generic “explore each other’s bodies” activities, which is something that isn’t really all that new to us, and I’m struggling to see how it gets to the root of our issue.
But we could of course just be being too cynical and to be fair, this is new to us, so we have no idea what to really expect.
So I’d love to hear from people who have had successful experiences with sex therapists. Thanks.
