Tips on how to talk to my husband about our vanilla sex life /u/hsams42069 Sex

My husband and I have a very healthy, happy sex life, but… It’s pretty vanilla. It’s awesome sex if that’s all you’re into. I would like to branch out and explore some kinks I’ve had for a while and explored with other partners in the past. My husband and I share everything with each other, but things get a little weird when we talk about sex. I have a history of sexual abuse and I think it makes him feel weird to try things with me. He has even mentioned before how happy he is with our vanilla sex life, but I want more. I’ve tried asking him for small things like some dirty talk or to be more forceful with me and he laughed it off and never really tried. I’ve only tried a couple of times, but his response was incredibly disheartening and now I’m apprehensive to ask for anything else new. So my question is how can I approach this topic with him with a minimal chance of being laughed at or making him think I’m not satisfied with our otherwise great sex life? He’s very self conscious about how he is in bed, so I really don’t want to make him feel inadequate or anything.
