Am I having sex properly? /u/Imaginary_Lie5050 Sex

I (25F) and my boyfriend (25M) have been dating for the last few months. Things have been going really well and we’re both ready to start having sex. We’re both virgins but made the decision to lose it to one another. I’ve taken steps to get on bc and he’s purchased condoms for us to use. Neither want children anytime soon.

We’ve started off with oral sex and have gotten comfortable with that. Now we’re ready for vaginal sex but keep having issues. I’ve tried to do research to make sure we’re going about it properly but the issue we keep running into is penetration.

Our first attempt at having sex was uneventful. We gave each other oral beforehand. When it came time to put his penis in, that’s where we had the most trouble. My bf seemed to have a hard time finding my vagina hole. At one point he said he wasn’t really hard which we thought was due to me giving him head beforehand, he came from it.

We waited a week or so and attempted it again. This time I made sure not to give him head beforehand so he could stay hard. He gave me oral and I was definitely wet. We attempted again to insert his penis but it never felt like it was going all the way in. I personally didn’t feel any friction anytime he would thrust. We made many attempts to get it in and even tried doggy style but nothing worked. Eventually he got soft so we quit.

The couple times he did get it in, it was painful but I was expecting that due to it being my first time. I assumed he would break my hymen but I did some research afterwards and learned that’s not the case for most women. His dick is curved so idk if that affects things. I’m also much shorter than him and overweight so idk if that affects anything either. Idk if my vagina is too tight or small or his dick is too big to fit inside properly.

I’m here to humbly ask for advise cause idk what we’re doing wrong. It’s frustrating and embarrassing. I’m not deluded to think sex for the first time would be some magical experience. I was expecting it to hurt and be awkward, especially since we’re both virgins. I didn’t think it would be this complicated though. Just him inserting his dick is a whole thing.

Anyways, how can I better improve my situation? Should I try lube? Is there a better position we should try?

I love my bf and I really don’t want this to affect our relationship cause I know how important sex/sexual compatibility is in a relationship. A small part of me is ashamed to admit that I want to have sex with someone who’s more experienced just so I know how it’s supposed to be done correctly. Does that make me a bad person? I really do love my bf and I’m happy to lose my virginity to him but the inexperience from both sides is starting to frustrate me.
